Description
In the medium, charcoal stops being a compromise between black and brown and becomes its own thing. It is cool rather than warm, it picks up the light differently across the panel than a flat black would, and it is the Marlow we most often see paired with grey and navy rather than with camel.
Its working dimensions are a 35cm opening, a 12cm base and 27cm of height. Enough for a 13 inch laptop, a notebook and the usual daily set. Not enough for a laptop plus a change of shoes, which is deliberate. Drop is 23cm: clears most coats on the shoulder.
It is the size people buy when the large one felt like luggage, and the one that covers both a desk and a Saturday.
The leather
We take a hide that is already cool and grey in tone and dye charcoal into it, rather than lightening a black. It stays cool rather than turning brown in strong light, and the colour sits deeper inside the grain lines.
How it is made
Hand stitching where it carries weight, machine stitching where it does not, which is an honest division of labour. Handles are set through the body panel and riveted in solid brass at both ends, never glued to a tab. Inside: cotton twill, a zip pocket on the wall and two open pockets opposite it. Made to order and dispatched in 3 to 5 working days, or about a day longer with a monogram.

Will a 13 inch laptop fit in this bag?
Yes. The opening is 35cm across and the base is 12cm deep, and a machine that size lies flat against the back panel. Anything larger than a 13 inch will sit above the top edge.
Does the bag hold its shape when it is empty?
Mostly. The base is a single reinforced panel so it stands up, and the sides soften a little over the first months, which is what stops a structured tote looking boxy.
Will this colour scratch or scuff easily?
It is aniline dyed full grain, so the colour runs through the leather instead of sitting on top as a film. A scratch does not leave a pale line, it buffs back with a thumb or a drop of conditioner.
Can I return it if I have my initials pressed on it?
No. A monogrammed bag cannot be resold, so it is final sale. Unmonogrammed bags can go back for 60 days in unused condition and we pay the return postage inside the US.
What is covered if something breaks?
Stitching and hardware are covered for as long as you own the bag. Send it back and we repair it. Wear on the leather itself, and anything caused by an accident, we repair at cost rather than free.
