Full grain keeps the scars and softens. Vegetable tanned darkens with sun. Pick the one that ages the way you want it to.

Why it costs what it costs

A bag you will still be carrying in 2036

The gap between a bag that lasts two years and one that lasts twenty is rarely the leather. Most brands get that part roughly right. It is the dozen construction decisions nobody photographs: whether a handle is riveted through a reinforcing patch or simply stitched to the panel, whether edges are burnished by hand or painted on, whether the base is a separate heavier piece. We went to the tanneries ourselves and built a workshop around eight people who have been doing this for decades.

1.8–2.2mm Hide thickness

Thick enough to hold a stitch under load. Most fashion bags run under 1.2mm and rely on glue.

8 per inch Hand stitches

Two needles, one thread, locked at every hole. A broken stitch stays put instead of unzipping the seam.

4–6 hours Of work per bag

Cutting, skiving, stitching and edge burnishing. Nothing here comes off a production line.

Since 2024 Making these by hand

Long enough to have learned what we got wrong, and to have fixed it. Fifteen per cent of every hide still gets rejected.

In their words

What buyers say once it arrives

“The quality is exceptional. The leather feels beautifully substantial, the stitching is precise, and every detail feels thoughtfully finished. It’s the kind of bag that gets better with time.”
Olivia · New York, USA
“Beautiful craftsmanship from start to finish. The leather has such a rich character, and the bag feels both timeless and incredibly well made. It looks even better in person.”
Daniel R. · London, UK
“I was impressed by the attention to detail. The texture of the leather, the hand-finished edges, and the overall construction give it a truly premium feel. Elegant without being flashy.”
Sophia K. · California, USA

The four leather grades, and what each one does in year five

“Genuine leather” sounds like a guarantee and is the second worst grade you can buy. Here is the whole vocabulary, so you can judge any bag, ours included.

Grade
What it actually is
How it ages
Full grainWhat we use
The top layer of the hide with nothing sanded off. Keeps the natural grain, pores and healed scars, which is also the strongest part.
Darkens and burnishes into a patina. Scratches buff out with a thumb. Creases rather than cracks. Outlasts the decade.
Top grain
The same top layer, sanded and refinished to remove marks. Even and predictable from bag to bag.
Holds its original color. Develops little patina, because the surface that would have absorbed oils was sanded away.
Genuine leatherAvoid
A lower split of the hide from below the grain, usually with a fake grain embossed on top. Real leather, weak fibers.
Cracks and flakes within a few years. The embossed surface lifts, showing pale split underneath.
Bonded leatherAvoid
Leather scrap ground up and glued to a backing sheet. Roughly what chipboard is to oak.
Peels. Always. Usually inside two years, and there is no repairing it.

Questions we get every week

What does full grain leather actually mean?

Full grain is the top layer of the hide with nothing sanded off it. The grain, the insect bites and the old scars all stay, which is why two of our bags are never identical. It is the strongest part of the hide, so it creases rather than cracks and darkens into a patina instead of flaking the way bonded or genuine leather does.

Is the monogram really free?

Yes, on every bag. Up to three characters, in gold foil, silver foil or a blind press with no color. You choose the letters and the placement on the product page and it adds roughly one working day before the bag ships.

How long does delivery take?

Every bag is made to order, so it leaves the workshop in 3 to 5 working days, or 4 to 6 for the hand woven Wren, plus one working day if you have added a monogram. It then ships by express courier with tracking, and US delivery is typically three to five working days from dispatch, so about 6 to 10 working days in total. US orders ship Delivered Duty Paid: we pay all US import duties and taxes, so there is nothing to pay on delivery. You get a tracking link as soon as the courier scans it.

Can I return a personalized bag?

You have 30 days on any bag, monogrammed or not, as long as it is unused and in its dust bag. We cannot resell a bag with someone else's initials on it, so we take the loss on those, which is the honest reason we ask you to be sure about the letters before you order.

How do I look after a leather bag?

Keep it out of direct sun and off radiators, wipe spills with a dry cloth rather than a wet one, and condition it two or three times a year with a neutral cream. Store it stuffed with paper in the dust bag so the shape holds. Water marks usually even out on their own as the leather dries.

Which bag should I start with?

Start from the largest thing you carry every day. A 13-inch laptop fits the medium Marlow, a 15-inch the large Marlow and a 16-inch the large Lorne, which holds it in a padded sleeve. If it is only a phone, wallet and keys, the small Juno is the one. Every bag lists its measurements in inches on its page, and the size guide has them all side by side.
