What hair-on hide is
Hair-on hide is leather tanned with the short hair still on the outer surface, so the bag shows the animal's natural coat. The hide underneath is strong, and the hair is short and dense, which keeps it from shedding in normal use. The handles, straps, edges and closures are smooth full grain leather, so the parts you touch most are the hardest wearing.
Every pattern is different
We cut each panel from a different part of a different hide, so the bag you receive will not match the photograph exactly. Spots, stripes and color patches fall where they fall. For a pattern that is mostly one color, choose the darkest hide; for the strongest contrast, choose black and white.
Care
- Brush the hair gently in the direction it lies, never against it.
- Keep it dry. If it gets wet, blot it and let it dry naturally away from heat.
- Never use leather conditioner on the hair side; condition only the smooth trim.
- Store it where nothing presses on the hair, so it does not flatten.
Who it suits
A hair-on bag is a statement piece: it is the bag people ask about. Many people pair it with a plain full grain leather bag for every day. If you want softness without pattern, see our suede bags.
Initials and delivery
Initials are pressed free on the smooth leather tab, since hair does not take a press. Bags leave the workshop in 3 to 5 working days, plus one with a monogram. Stitching is covered for life and hardware for five years, and any bag can come back within 30 days.
