Foldover clutch vs pouch vs wristlet
A pouch clutch is a flat zip bag. A foldover is one piece of leather folded over, so it looks slimmer and holds a little more than its size suggests. A wristlet is any small bag with a wrist strap. The Mabel is all three: a foldover with a hidden magnet, a zip pocket inside, and a wrist strap that clips on and off.
When a clutch is the right bag
Weddings, dinners, travel days when your main bag stays in the room, and as an organiser inside a big tote. Under the arm it carries a phone, keys, cards and a lipstick, and it takes a small tablet when you need it.
Sizes in this collection
The Mabel is 11 by 7.5 inches folded and under an inch deep, which is the size of a small tablet. Unfolded it holds a little more, and the wrist strap clips on when you want it.

The leather
A foldover clutch is mostly one large piece of leather, so it shows the hide more clearly than any other bag. We pick full-grain panels with even grain for the Mabel, so the fold line softens without cracking.
How it is made
With so few seams, each one matters. The side seams are hand stitched, the fold is skived thinner so it bends cleanly, and the magnet is sealed inside a leather pocket.
Colours
A clutch can be bolder than a daily bag. Oxblood and cognac work for evenings and weddings, black is the safe dinner choice, and oat is the summer clutch.
Initials, delivery and returns
Initials are pressed inside the flap or on the front corner, at no charge. Each clutch ships in 3 to 5 working days, with 30 days to return it.
Care
Store a clutch flat, not folded tightly, between uses. Keep make-up in a pouch inside, and wipe the fold line now and then, because hand oil gathers there.
Clutch sizes and what they hold
Clutches are measured flat, but what fits depends on depth. The Mabel is under an inch deep when closed and opens wider as it fills, so a phone, keys, cards and a lipstick lie flat without bulging. A small tablet fits too, which makes it useful as a travel document holder. If you want something even smaller, the Tilly mini wears crossbody and fits about the same, in a boxier shape.
Choosing a clutch colour for events
For weddings, avoid a clutch that clashes with the wedding colours. Black, oxblood and oat are the safest, and oat suits summer and daytime weddings. For black-tie evenings, black is classic, and oxblood adds colour without being loud. For dinners and nights out, cognac looks warm and relaxed. A clutch is seen in your hand, close to your clothes, so colour matters more than on a shoulder bag. If you'll use it often, pick a shade from your wardrobe rather than one outfit.
Clutch vs mini crossbody
A clutch is the most elegant way to carry very little, but it keeps one hand busy unless you use the wrist strap. A mini crossbody like the Tilly holds about the same and frees both hands, though it looks more casual with formal clothes. For a seated dinner or wedding, choose a clutch. For a standing event, a festival or a city evening on foot, a mini crossbody is easier. Some people own both and choose by whether they'll need their hands.
Personalising a clutch as a gift
Clutches are a popular gift for bridesmaids, graduations and anniversaries, because they don't need a size. Initials pressed inside the flap make a private touch that only the owner sees. On the front corner they're a visible monogram. Blind pressing, with no colour, is the most subtle option. Order a few days before you need it to allow for the 3 to 5 working day make time and shipping.
