The Mabel — Oat Leather Clutch Bag

Oat is a soft warm cream with a little grey in it. It is the light neutral for summer and for anyone who finds black too heavy, and the finish is sealed enough to wipe clean.

The Mabel is a foldover clutch: one soft piece of leather that folds over and closes with a hidden magnet, with a detachable wrist strap so it works as a wristlet.

Folded it is 11″ (28 cm) wide by 7.5″ (19 cm) tall and under 1″ (2 cm) deep, and tucks under the arm. Inside there is a zip pocket for cards and room for a phone, keys and a small tablet.

The leather

The hide is full-grain, which means the top surface is left on, grain, small scars and all, instead of being sanded and printed. It is the strongest layer of the skin and the only one that ages well.

How it is made

Every bag is cut, stitched and finished by hand in our own workshop. Strap anchors are stitched and riveted, not glued, and the edges are burnished in several passes so there is no paint to flake.

Care

Wipe it with a dry cloth, keep it out of long direct sun, and give it a neutral leather conditioner a couple of times a year.
