Description
Weaving black leather is harder than it looks, because every strand has to be cut to the same width or the pattern crawls. The Wren in black is the most structured looking bag in the woven range: from three paces it reads as a solid panel, and only up close does the basketweave show.
36cm across, 28cm high, and a base 13cm deep that does not taper. Room for a 13 inch laptop, a book and a bottle, and the weave flexes around an odd shaped load in a way a rigid tote will not. Handle drop is 23cm, which clears most coats on the shoulder.
Buy it if a plain leather tote feels too plain and a straw bag feels too casual.
The leather
The hide is full grain and aniline dyed, so the colour runs through the leather instead of sitting on it as a pigment film. Each strand is cut at a consistent 12mm from the same hide as our flat panel bags and woven over a leather backing, which is the step most woven totes skip. In daylight it reads as very dark brown rather than pure black, which is the giveaway that nothing was sprayed over it.
How it is made
The base is cut as its own reinforced panel, so a full load sits flat instead of on a fold. The seams that carry weight are hand stitched rather than machined, because a handle is what fails first on a tote. Lined in heavy cotton twill with a zip pocket on the back wall and two open pockets facing it. Expect 4 to 6 working days in the workshop before it is boxed and on its way.

Will a 13 inch laptop fit in this bag?
Yes. The opening is 36cm across and the base is 13cm deep, and a machine that size lies flat against the back panel. Anything larger than a 13 inch will sit above the top edge.
Will the woven leather stretch or sag?
Not in the way an unbacked woven bag does. Every strand is woven over a full leather backing panel, so the weave cannot spread under load. It will soften, which is different from sagging.
Will this colour scratch or scuff easily?
It is aniline dyed full grain, so the colour runs through the leather instead of sitting on top as a film. A scratch does not leave a pale line, it buffs back with a thumb or a drop of conditioner.
Can I return it if I have my initials pressed on it?
No. A monogrammed bag cannot be resold, so it is final sale. Unmonogrammed bags can go back for 60 days in unused condition and we pay the return postage inside the US.
What is covered if something breaks?
Stitching and hardware are covered for as long as you own the bag. Send it back and we repair it. Wear on the leather itself, and anything caused by an accident, we repair at cost rather than free.
