Description
The small Wren in black is the woven bag for people who do not want to explain their bag. At 28cm the basketweave reads as texture rather than as a pattern, and from any distance it simply looks like a well made dark tote.
Measured properly: a 28cm opening over a 11cm base, standing 24cm tall. A tablet, a purse, keys, glasses and a small bottle. A day bag rather than a work bag, and the woven one people reach for most. Expect 21cm of handle drop, enough that it will sit on a shoulder over a shirt but fights a thick coat.
It is the woven bag people buy second and end up using more, because it goes everywhere a work bag cannot.
The leather
This is aniline dyed full grain, which means dye through the hide rather than a sprayed film over a sanded surface. The weave runs over a full leather backing panel rather than being left open, so the strands cannot spread under load. Scratch a coated black bag and you get a pale line. Scratch this one and the mark buffs back with a thumb.
How it is made
Handles are set through the body panel and riveted in solid brass at both ends, never glued to a tab. Hand stitching where it carries weight, machine stitching where it does not, which is an honest division of labour. Cotton twill throughout, with one zipped pocket and two open, and no glue anywhere in the assembly. Made when you order, which takes 4 to 6 working days, and a monogram adds roughly a day to that.

Questions people ask about this bag
Can I carry a laptop in this bag?
No, and that is deliberate. At 28cm wide and 11cm deep it takes a tablet at most. If you need a laptop bag, look at the Lorne or the large Marlow instead.
Will the woven leather stretch or sag?
Not in the way an unbacked woven bag does. Every strand is woven over a full leather backing panel, so the weave cannot spread under load. It will soften, which is different from sagging.
Will this colour scratch or scuff easily?
It is aniline dyed full grain, so the colour runs through the leather instead of sitting on top as a film. A scratch does not leave a pale line, it buffs back with a thumb or a drop of conditioner.
Can I return it if I have my initials pressed on it?
No. A monogrammed bag cannot be resold, so it is final sale. Unmonogrammed bags can go back for 60 days in unused condition and we pay the return postage inside the US.
What is covered if something breaks?
Stitching and hardware are covered for as long as you own the bag. Send it back and we repair it. Wear on the leather itself, and anything caused by an accident, we repair at cost rather than free.
