Description
Chestnut in the medium size shows its variation more than the large does, because the panels are smaller and the eye takes them in at once. Under a warm bulb it runs almost auburn, and in daylight it settles back to a deep, red toned brown.
Measured properly: a 35cm opening over a 12cm base, standing 27cm tall. Enough for a 13 inch laptop, a notebook and the usual daily set. Not enough for a laptop plus a change of shoes, which is deliberate. The handles drop 23cm, so the bag clears most coats on the shoulder.
It is the size people buy when the large one felt like luggage, and the one that covers both a desk and a Saturday.
The leather
The red in chestnut is in the dye itself, not a tint sprayed over the top. The grain shows through it clearly, and it is the colour that varies most between hides. We do not correct for that.
How it is made
Handles are set through the body panel and riveted in solid brass at both ends, never glued to a tab. Hand stitching where it carries weight, machine stitching where it does not, which is an honest division of labour. Heavy cotton twill inside, one zip pocket and two open ones, stitched in rather than glued so it can be replaced. Made when you order, which takes 3 to 5 working days, and a monogram adds roughly a day to that.

Will a 13 inch laptop fit in this bag?
Yes. The opening is 35cm across and the base is 12cm deep, and a machine that size lies flat against the back panel. Anything larger than a 13 inch will sit above the top edge.
Does the bag hold its shape when it is empty?
Mostly. The base is a single reinforced panel so it stands up, and the sides soften a little over the first months, which is what stops a structured tote looking boxy.
Will the chestnut colour change with use?
It deepens about half a shade in the first year, most visibly where your hand rests on the handles. It will not change dramatically the way our vegetable tanned tan does.
How long will it take to reach me?

How do I know this is genuinely full grain leather?
Look at the photographs of the surface. Full grain keeps the original grain, including old scars and insect marks, because nothing has been sanded off and sprayed over. If a leather panel is perfectly uniform it has been corrected. Ours are not.
