Description
The medium Marlow in cognac is the bag we have made most of. Warm amber, waxed rather than lacquered, and small enough that people carry it on days they are not working, which is when leather like this gets the handling that makes it look expensive.
It opens at 35cm and is 12cm deep where it matters, at the base rather than at the widest point. A 13 inch laptop, a slim notebook and a day’s things fit. A laptop and gym kit together do not, and that is what the large size is for. The 23cm drop means it clears most coats on the shoulder.
This is the bag for someone who wants one tote for work and weekends and does not carry a spare pair of shoes.
The leather
Cognac is full grain finished with a light wax rather than a topcoat. Expect it to move about half a shade darker in the first year, most obviously along the handles.
How it is made
No edge paint anywhere on the bag, and no glued handle tabs, which are the two places a cheap tote gives way. Every cut edge is sanded and burnished in four passes rather than painted, so it cannot flake off in a strip. A twill lining with three pockets, and it is stitched in, so a ruined lining is a repair rather than a write off. Built to order, out of the workshop in 3 to 5 working days, plus a day if you want initials on it.

Will a 13 inch laptop fit in this bag?
Yes. The opening is 35cm across and the base is 12cm deep, and a machine that size lies flat against the back panel. Anything larger than a 13 inch will sit above the top edge.
Does the bag hold its shape when it is empty?
Mostly. The base is a single reinforced panel so it stands up, and the sides soften a little over the first months, which is what stops a structured tote looking boxy.
Will the cognac colour change with use?
It deepens about half a shade in the first year, most visibly where your hand rests on the handles. It will not change dramatically the way our vegetable tanned tan does.
How do I know this is genuinely full grain leather?
Look at the photographs of the surface. Full grain keeps the original grain, including old scars and insect marks, because nothing has been sanded off and sprayed over. If a leather panel is perfectly uniform it has been corrected. Ours are not.
Is the monogram really free?
Yes, on every bag, including this one. Three letters in gold foil, silver foil or a blind press with no colour. It adds about a day before dispatch and we email you a proof of the placement first.
