Description
The small Ellis in charcoal is the bag people keep in a car. Dark waxed canvas over black leather corners, light enough to forget about, and structured enough that it does not collapse into a heap in a footwell.
The opening runs 30cm, the base is 12cm deep and the body stands 26cm high. Sized for a 13 inch laptop or a market run rather than a full working day, and it folds flatter than anything else here when empty. Drop is 22cm: clears a jacket on the shoulder and is tight over a heavy coat.
It suits a market, a beach or a car, and it is the bag people keep in the boot because it packs flat.
The canvas and the leather
Charcoal 18oz waxed cotton, carried on black full grain leather at every point that wears. The canvas darkens where the wax compresses along the fold lines, which is the whole character of waxed cotton rather than a fault.
How it is made
Brass hardware throughout, unplated, because plating wears through to grey exactly where your hand goes. Load bearing seams are saddle stitched by hand, two needles through one hole, so a cut thread stays put instead of running. Inside: cotton twill, a zip pocket on the wall and two open pockets opposite it. Cut, stitched and finished to order in 3 to 5 working days.

Will a 13 inch laptop fit in this bag?
Yes. The opening is 30cm across and the base is 12cm deep, and a machine that size lies flat against the back panel. Anything larger than a 13 inch will sit above the top edge.
How do I clean and re wax the canvas?
Brush off dry dirt, then wipe with a damp cloth and cold water only, never detergent and never a machine. Re wax with an ordinary wax bar once every year or two. We will also re wax it here free in the first two years if you cover the postage.
Will this colour scratch or scuff easily?
It is aniline dyed full grain, so the colour runs through the leather instead of sitting on top as a film. A scratch does not leave a pale line, it buffs back with a thumb or a drop of conditioner.
Can I return it if I have my initials pressed on it?
No. A monogrammed bag cannot be resold, so it is final sale. Unmonogrammed bags can go back for 60 days in unused condition and we pay the return postage inside the US.
What is covered if something breaks?
Stitching and hardware are covered for as long as you own the bag. Send it back and we repair it. Wear on the leather itself, and anything caused by an accident, we repair at cost rather than free.
