Description
The small cognac Wren is the one that leaves the workshop on a Friday and comes back in a photograph two years later looking better. The amber tone varies slightly strand to strand depending on where each was cut from the hide, and that is what gives it its low shimmer.
The opening runs 28cm, the base is 11cm deep and the body stands 24cm high. A tablet, a purse, keys, glasses and a small bottle. A day bag rather than a work bag, and the woven one people reach for most. The handles drop 21cm, so the bag will sit on a shoulder over a shirt but fights a thick coat.
It is the woven bag people buy second and end up using more, because it goes everywhere a work bag cannot.
The leather
A wax finish over full grain, with no lacquer on top of it. The weave runs over a full leather backing panel rather than being left open, so the strands cannot spread under load. The surface picks up a low shine where you handle it and stays matte everywhere else.
How it is made
Brass hardware throughout, unplated, because plating wears through to grey exactly where your hand goes. Load bearing seams are saddle stitched by hand, two needles through one hole, so a cut thread stays put instead of running. Heavy cotton twill inside, one zip pocket and two open ones, stitched in rather than glued so it can be replaced. Cut, stitched and finished to order in 4 to 6 working days.

Questions people ask about this bag
Can I carry a laptop in this bag?
No, and that is deliberate. At 28cm wide and 11cm deep it takes a tablet at most. If you need a laptop bag, look at the Lorne or the large Marlow instead.
Will the woven leather stretch or sag?
Not in the way an unbacked woven bag does. Every strand is woven over a full leather backing panel, so the weave cannot spread under load. It will soften, which is different from sagging.
Will the cognac colour change with use?
It deepens about half a shade in the first year, most visibly where your hand rests on the handles. It will not change dramatically the way our vegetable tanned tan does.
What is covered if something breaks?
Stitching and hardware are covered for as long as you own the bag. Send it back and we repair it. Wear on the leather itself, and anything caused by an accident, we repair at cost rather than free.
How long will it take to reach me?
