Description
Tan is the Wren that shows the weave most clearly, because the light catches every strand edge differently. It is the colour we photograph the design in for that reason. Expect it to deepen unevenly, with the raised parts of the weave darkening first, which is what gives an old woven bag its depth.
Its working dimensions are a 36cm opening, a 13cm base and 28cm of height. A 13 inch laptop in a sleeve, a book and a bottle. Woven leather has more give than a solid panel, so it takes an awkward load better. The handles drop 23cm, so the bag clears most coats on the shoulder.
It is for someone who wants texture rather than a flat panel and still needs the bag to do a day’s work.
The leather
Bark tanned rather than chrome tanned, which is why this is the one hide in the range that changes in front of you. The weave runs over a full leather backing panel rather than being left open, so the strands cannot spread under load. It starts pale and unfinished, and sunlight, hand oils and ordinary wear pull it toward a deep chestnut over roughly two years.
How it is made
Hand stitching where it carries weight, machine stitching where it does not, which is an honest division of labour. Handles are set through the body panel and riveted in solid brass at both ends, never glued to a tab. Heavy cotton twill inside, one zip pocket and two open ones, stitched in rather than glued so it can be replaced. Made to order and dispatched in 4 to 6 working days, or about a day longer with a monogram.

Will a 13 inch laptop fit in this bag?
Yes. The opening is 36cm across and the base is 13cm deep, and a machine that size lies flat against the back panel. Anything larger than a 13 inch will sit above the top edge.
Will the woven leather stretch or sag?
Not in the way an unbacked woven bag does. Every strand is woven over a full leather backing panel, so the weave cannot spread under load. It will soften, which is different from sagging.
Will the tan leather darken?
Yes, and quickly at the handles. It is vegetable tanned, so sunlight and the oils from your hands take it from honey toward chestnut over about two years. The change is uneven and permanent. If you want it to stay as it arrives, choose chocolate.
How do I know this is genuinely full grain leather?
Look at the photographs of the surface. Full grain keeps the original grain, including old scars and insect marks, because nothing has been sanded off and sprayed over. If a leather panel is perfectly uniform it has been corrected. Ours are not.
Is the monogram really free?
Yes, on every bag, including this one. Three letters in gold foil, silver foil or a blind press with no colour. It adds about a day before dispatch and we email you a proof of the placement first.
