Most woven totes on the market are woven and left unbacked, which is why they look beautiful in the photograph and sag into a hammock within a year. Ours are woven over a full leather backing panel, so the strands cannot spread under load. It is one extra layer of leather and several extra hours, and it is the whole difference between a woven bag that lasts and one that does not.

Brown Leather Tote BagsStrands are cut from the same full grain hide as our flat panel bags at a consistent 12mm. Cut them by eye and the pattern crawls diagonally across the panel, which is the fastest way to spot a rushed woven bag. They are then woven by hand over the backing and the whole assembly is stitched into the body, so the weave is structural rather than decorative.
Tan shows the weave most because the light catches every strand edge differently. Black reads as a solid panel until you are close. Stone, a pale grey, is the one we would pick for summer and the one to avoid if you are careless with wine. Cognac and chocolate sit between the two. All five are on this page in regular at 36cm and small at 28cm.
Woven bags take 4 to 6 working days to make rather than 3 to 5, because the weaving is done by hand and cannot be rushed without the tension going uneven.
The waxed canvas totes give you a similar mix of texture and leather with a shorter lead time and a lower price.

Dust settles into the weave rather than on top of it, so use a soft brush rather than a cloth, and work with the direction of the strands rather than across them. Conditioner needs a lighter touch here than on a flat panel because there is more surface area and it can pool in the crossings.
The pale stone colourway is the one to think twice about if you are careless with wine, and we ship it with a protector cloth for that reason.
