Description
Chocolate in the small Wren flattens the weave into something closer to a heavy fabric than a basket, which is the point. It is the woven bag to choose if you like the texture but want it to read as quiet rather than as decorative.
28cm across, 24cm high, and a base 11cm deep that does not taper. Tablet sized rather than laptop sized: a purse, keys, glasses, a bottle and a notebook, and nothing that has to be carried flat. At 21cm of drop it will sit on a shoulder over a shirt but fights a thick coat.
This suits a day out rather than a day at a desk, and it is the one that gets picked up on the way out of the door.
The leather
Chocolate is a through dyed full grain hide with a very even take up. Each strand is cut at a consistent 12mm from the same hide as our flat panel bags and woven over a leather backing, which is the step most woven totes skip. Scuffs and water marks both disappear into it, which makes it the most forgiving colour we make.
How it is made
The base is cut as its own reinforced panel, so a full load sits flat instead of on a fold. The seams that carry weight are hand stitched rather than machined, because a handle is what fails first on a tote. The lining is heavy cotton twill with a zip pocket and two open pockets sized for a phone and a pass. Expect 4 to 6 working days in the workshop before it is boxed and on its way.

Questions people ask about this bag
Can I carry a laptop in this bag?
No, and that is deliberate. At 28cm wide and 11cm deep it takes a tablet at most. If you need a laptop bag, look at the Lorne or the large Marlow instead.
Will the woven leather stretch or sag?
Not in the way an unbacked woven bag does. Every strand is woven over a full leather backing panel, so the weave cannot spread under load. It will soften, which is different from sagging.
Will this colour scratch or scuff easily?
It is aniline dyed full grain, so the colour runs through the leather instead of sitting on top as a film. A scratch does not leave a pale line, it buffs back with a thumb or a drop of conditioner.
Is the monogram really free?
Yes, on every bag, including this one. Three letters in gold foil, silver foil or a blind press with no colour. It adds about a day before dispatch and we email you a proof of the placement first.
Can I return it if I have my initials pressed on it?
No. A monogrammed bag cannot be resold, so it is final sale. Unmonogrammed bags can go back for 60 days in unused condition and we pay the return postage inside the US.
