Description
Cognac is the colour most people picture when they think of a leather bag, and it is also the hardest to get right. Too orange and it looks coated. Too dull and it looks like a shoe. This Marlow sits in the middle, a warm amber brown with visible grain that pulls darker around the handles within a season of real use.
40cm wide at the mouth, 14cm deep on the floor of the bag, 30cm from base to handle root. A 16 inch machine goes in flat against the back, with a folder and a bottle alongside it and room to spare. The 24cm drop means it clears a winter coat on the shoulder without riding up.
Buy it if your daily load is a laptop plus something else and you are in and out of the bag constantly.
The leather
Cognac is full grain finished with a light wax rather than a topcoat. Expect it to move about half a shade darker in the first year, most obviously along the handles.
How it is made
The seams that carry weight are hand stitched rather than machined, because a handle is what fails first on a tote. The base is cut as its own reinforced panel, so a full load sits flat instead of on a fold. A twill lining with three pockets, and it is stitched in, so a ruined lining is a repair rather than a write off. Dispatch is 3 to 5 working days from order, because nothing here sits on a shelf waiting.

Will a 16 inch laptop fit in this bag?
Yes. The opening is 40cm across and the base is 14cm deep, and a machine that size lies flat against the back panel. Anything larger than a 16 inch will sit above the top edge.
Does the bag hold its shape when it is empty?
Mostly. The base is a single reinforced panel so it stands up, and the sides soften a little over the first months, which is what stops a structured tote looking boxy.
Will the cognac colour change with use?
It deepens about half a shade in the first year, most visibly where your hand rests on the handles. It will not change dramatically the way our vegetable tanned tan does.
Can I return it if I have my initials pressed on it?
No. A monogrammed bag cannot be resold, so it is final sale. Unmonogrammed bags can go back for 60 days in unused condition and we pay the return postage inside the US.
What is covered if something breaks?
Stitching and hardware are covered for as long as you own the bag. Send it back and we repair it. Wear on the leather itself, and anything caused by an accident, we repair at cost rather than free.
