Description
Navy canvas and chocolate leather is the quietest of the two tone Ellis bags. From any distance it reads as one dark colour, and only close up do the two materials separate. It is the version we send out most often as a gift.
Measured properly: a 42cm opening over a 15cm base, standing 32cm tall. A 16 inch laptop, a gym kit and a lunch all go in together, which is what the widest opening we make is for. The handles drop 25cm, so the bag is the easiest bag in the range to get onto a shoulder over anything.
It is for a long walk, a school run or a train, where a third of a kilo saved matters more than formality.
The canvas and the leather
Navy waxed cotton over chocolate full grain, which is the darkest pairing we make in canvas. At any distance it reads as one dark colour, and only close up do the two materials separate.
How it is made
Handles are set through the body panel and riveted in solid brass at both ends, never glued to a tab. Hand stitching where it carries weight, machine stitching where it does not, which is an honest division of labour. Heavy cotton twill inside, one zip pocket and two open ones, stitched in rather than glued so it can be replaced. Made when you order, which takes 3 to 5 working days, and a monogram adds roughly a day to that.

Questions people ask about this bag
Will a 16 inch laptop fit in this bag?
Yes. The opening is 42cm across and the base is 15cm deep, and a machine that size lies flat against the back panel. Anything larger than a 16 inch will sit above the top edge.
How do I clean and re wax the canvas?
Brush off dry dirt, then wipe with a damp cloth and cold water only, never detergent and never a machine. Re wax with an ordinary wax bar once every year or two. We will also re wax it here free in the first two years if you cover the postage.
Will this colour scratch or scuff easily?
It is aniline dyed full grain, so the colour runs through the leather instead of sitting on top as a film. A scratch does not leave a pale line, it buffs back with a thumb or a drop of conditioner.
Is the monogram really free?
Yes, on every bag, including this one. Three letters in gold foil, silver foil or a blind press with no colour. It adds about a day before dispatch and we email you a proof of the placement first.
Can I return it if I have my initials pressed on it?
No. A monogrammed bag cannot be resold, so it is final sale. Unmonogrammed bags can go back for 60 days in unused condition and we pay the return postage inside the US.
