Description
Navy is the Lorne we make for people who wear a lot of grey and black and want one thing in the outfit that is not either. It is blue in daylight and blue black indoors, deep enough to pass as formal, distinct enough that it never looks like a failed attempt at black.
It opens at 41cm and is 14cm deep where it matters, at the base rather than at the widest point. The 16 inch machine lives in its sleeve against your back, so the rest of the bag stays usable rather than being half full of laptop. Handle drop is 22cm, which clears a jacket on the shoulder and is tight over a heavy coat.
Buy it if you commute with a machine and want the opening shut while you do it.
The leather
Navy is difficult to dye evenly on full grain, which is why most makers reach for a coated leather instead. The result is blue outdoors and blue black indoors, with the grain visible through the colour rather than hidden under it.
How it is made
No edge paint anywhere on the bag, and no glued handle tabs, which are the two places a cheap tote gives way. Every cut edge is sanded and burnished in four passes rather than painted, so it cannot flake off in a strip. Lined in heavy cotton twill with a padded laptop sleeve the full height of the back wall, a zip pocket opposite and a pen loop. Built to order, out of the workshop in 3 to 5 working days, plus a day if you want initials on it.

Will a 16 inch laptop fit in this bag?
Yes. The opening is 41cm across and the base is 14cm deep, and it sits in the padded sleeve on the back wall. Anything larger than a 16 inch will sit above the top edge.
Does the zip run the full width of the opening?
Yes. It is a two way brass zip that runs the whole 41cm, so you can open it from either end or leave a gap in the middle for a cable.
Will this colour scratch or scuff easily?
It is aniline dyed full grain, so the colour runs through the leather instead of sitting on top as a film. A scratch does not leave a pale line, it buffs back with a thumb or a drop of conditioner.

How do I know this is genuinely full grain leather?
Look at the photographs of the surface. Full grain keeps the original grain, including old scars and insect marks, because nothing has been sanded off and sprayed over. If a leather panel is perfectly uniform it has been corrected. Ours are not.
