Description
Olive canvas with tan leather at 30cm is the small Ellis most people buy first. It is the pairing that reads as outdoors without being outdoor kit, and the tan corners will darken to something close to the canvas within a year.
30cm across, 26cm high, and a base 12cm deep that does not taper. A 13 inch laptop fits, but it is really the bag for a market, a beach or a car boot, because empty it packs down flat. The 22cm drop means it clears a jacket on the shoulder and is tight over a heavy coat.
This is the one to buy if you want something you are not precious about.
The canvas and the leather
The body is 18oz waxed cotton canvas, dry finished rather than sticky, with full grain tan leather at the handles, corners and base. Olive against tan is the oldest pairing in outdoor kit, and the tan will darken well before the canvas does.
How it is made
The base is cut as its own reinforced panel, so a full load sits flat instead of on a fold. The seams that carry weight are hand stitched rather than machined, because a handle is what fails first on a tote. A twill lining with three pockets, and it is stitched in, so a ruined lining is a repair rather than a write off. Expect 3 to 5 working days in the workshop before it is boxed and on its way.

Will a 13 inch laptop fit in this bag?
Yes. The opening is 30cm across and the base is 12cm deep, and a machine that size lies flat against the back panel. Anything larger than a 13 inch will sit above the top edge.
How do I clean and re wax the canvas?
Brush off dry dirt, then wipe with a damp cloth and cold water only, never detergent and never a machine. Re wax with an ordinary wax bar once every year or two. We will also re wax it here free in the first two years if you cover the postage.
Is the canvas waterproof?
Water resistant, not waterproof. The wax sheds rain and light spray, and the leather base keeps the bottom of the bag off wet ground. In sustained heavy rain the canvas will eventually wet through and then dry out with no damage.
How do I know this is genuinely full grain leather?
Look at the photographs of the surface. Full grain keeps the original grain, including old scars and insect marks, because nothing has been sanded off and sprayed over. If a leather panel is perfectly uniform it has been corrected. Ours are not.
Is the monogram really free?
Yes, on every bag, including this one. Three letters in gold foil, silver foil or a blind press with no colour. It adds about a day before dispatch and we email you a proof of the placement first.
