Description
Sand canvas with cognac trim is the lightest Ellis, and the one that most obviously reads as a warm weather bag. The wax finish gives the canvas a slight sheen when new which knocks back to a dry matte after a few weeks of carrying.
42cm wide at the mouth, 15cm deep on the floor of the bag, 32cm from base to handle root. Laptop, kit bag and lunch at the same time. At 42cm this is the only bag in the range that takes all three without a fight. Handle drop is 25cm, which is the easiest bag in the range to get onto a shoulder over anything.
Buy it if your commute is on foot and the weight of an all leather tote has put you off before.
The canvas and the leather
The body is 18oz waxed cotton in a sand tone, with cognac full grain at the handles, corners and base. Pale canvas shows its fold lines sooner than dark, and they rub out with warm hands or a hairdryer on low.
How it is made
The seams that carry weight are hand stitched rather than machined, because a handle is what fails first on a tote. The base is cut as its own reinforced panel, so a full load sits flat instead of on a fold. Lined in heavy cotton twill with a zip pocket on the back wall and two open pockets facing it. Dispatch is 3 to 5 working days from order, because nothing here sits on a shelf waiting.

Will a 16 inch laptop fit in this bag?
Yes. The opening is 42cm across and the base is 15cm deep, and a machine that size lies flat against the back panel. Anything larger than a 16 inch will sit above the top edge.
How do I clean and re wax the canvas?
Brush off dry dirt, then wipe with a damp cloth and cold water only, never detergent and never a machine. Re wax with an ordinary wax bar once every year or two. We will also re wax it here free in the first two years if you cover the postage.
Is the canvas waterproof?
Water resistant, not waterproof. The wax sheds rain and light spray, and the leather base keeps the bottom of the bag off wet ground. In sustained heavy rain the canvas will eventually wet through and then dry out with no damage.
What is covered if something breaks?
Stitching and hardware are covered for as long as you own the bag. Send it back and we repair it. Wear on the leather itself, and anything caused by an accident, we repair at cost rather than free.
