We designed this range for women first rather than scaling down a men's bag and calling it done, and the difference shows in three places: handle drop, base depth and weight. A tote that hangs at the hip on one person sits in the armpit on another, so every bag here lists its drop, and we kept the empty weight under 1.3kg across the whole range even on the largest sizes.

Brown Leather Tote BagsIf you leave the house with a laptop, lunch and a change of shoes, you want a large tote with a flat base. If you commute with a laptop and nothing else, a laptop tote with a padded back sleeve is lighter and easier to get in and out of. If you are carrying a bag through a market, a train or a school run, the zip top designs are the ones that let you stop thinking about the opening.
The two things customers mention after six months are the handles darkening before the body does, which is normal and the reason we cut handles from the same hide as the panels, and the base holding square under weight, which is the reinforced panel doing its job. The complaint we hear is about the tan bags changing colour faster than expected. That is vegetable tanned leather behaving correctly, and it is covered honestly on every tan product page.
Black sells the most and shows the least. Brown is where the range is deepest because cognac, tan, chocolate and chestnut all read as brown and all age differently. Pale canvas is the one to think twice about if you put your bag on train floors.
Wipe dust off with a dry cloth, keep it out of direct radiator heat, and condition it once a year. Full instructions are in the care guide.
A tote fails on the shoulder long before it fails anywhere else. Drop is the distance from the top of the handle to the top of the bag, and it is the number most listings leave out. Under 20cm and the bag has to be carried in the hand. Between 21 and 23cm it will sit on a shoulder over a shirt but fight you over a winter coat. At 24 to 25cm it clears a coat comfortably.

An empty large leather tote is between 1.1kg and 1.3kg. Put a 16 inch laptop, a charger and a water bottle in it and you are carrying four kilos on one shoulder for the length of a commute. That is not a small thing, and it is the single most common reason a beautiful bag stops being used. If your commute is long or on foot, the waxed canvas Ellis does the same job at 0.95kg, and the medium sizes save another 200 grams. We would rather talk you into the lighter bag now than take the return in a month.

Two years in, the same small team in Sialkot cuts and stitches every bag on this page. There is no factory floor and no third party brand behind it. The medium sizes. A large tote at 40 to 42cm across sits wide under the arm on a smaller frame and knocks against the hip when you walk. The medium Marlow at 35cm and the medium Lorne at 36cm carry the same daily load without the width.
The medium Marlow is the one most customers use for both. It takes a 13 inch laptop on a weekday and does not look like a work bag on a Saturday. The Lorne is more obviously a work bag because of the zip and the laptop wall.
The large leather totes are 1.1kg to 1.3kg empty. The waxed canvas Ellis is 0.95kg in the same size, and the small bags start at 0.6kg. Every product page lists the empty weight, which most shops do not.
It holds. Every bag here is built on a reinforced base panel cut as its own piece, so it stands up on a table or a floor. The sides soften over the first few months, which is what stops a structured tote looking boxy, but the base stays square.
A 13 inch laptop, an A4 folder, a purse, a water bottle standing upright, glasses and keys, with room left. What does not fit is a laptop plus a change of shoes, and that is deliberate: the large size exists for that.
Each design comes in five or six colours and those are what we make. We do not do bespoke colourways, because a one off hide costs more than the bag and the colour would not match the next one.
No, but you can replace it. The heavy cotton twill lining is stitched in rather than glued, so a lining that has taken a leaking pen can be taken out and a new one put in without rebuilding the bag. Send it to us and we will quote you.
Store it upright with a rolled towel or the dust bag inside it, not hanging from the handles on a hook. Hanging is what pulls the handle roots out of shape over a few years, and it is the one storage habit worth changing.
Unused and unmonogrammed bags go back inside 60 days and we pay the return postage within the US.
