Description
Olive canvas against tan leather is the oldest colour pairing in outdoor kit, and it is the combination people ask us for most. The tan handles will darken well before the canvas does, so the contrast softens over the first year rather than sharpening.
The numbers are 42cm across the opening, 32cm tall and 15cm deep at the base. A 16 inch laptop, a gym kit and a lunch all go in together, which is what the widest opening we make is for. Expect 25cm of handle drop, enough that it is the easiest bag in the range to get onto a shoulder over anything.
It is for a long walk, a school run or a train, where a third of a kilo saved matters more than formality.
The canvas and the leather
18oz waxed cotton, dry to the hand rather than tacky, carried on tan full grain at every wear point. The canvas is water resistant rather than waterproof, and it can be re waxed at home with an ordinary wax bar.
How it is made
Load bearing seams are saddle stitched by hand, two needles through one hole, so a cut thread stays put instead of running. Brass hardware throughout, unplated, because plating wears through to grey exactly where your hand goes. Cotton twill throughout, with one zipped pocket and two open, and no glue anywhere in the assembly. This one is cut when you order it and leaves in 3 to 5 working days.

Will a 16 inch laptop fit in this bag?
Yes. The opening is 42cm across and the base is 15cm deep, and a machine that size lies flat against the back panel. Anything larger than a 16 inch will sit above the top edge.
How do I clean and re wax the canvas?
Brush off dry dirt, then wipe with a damp cloth and cold water only, never detergent and never a machine. Re wax with an ordinary wax bar once every year or two. We will also re wax it here free in the first two years if you cover the postage.
Is the canvas waterproof?
Water resistant, not waterproof. The wax sheds rain and light spray, and the leather base keeps the bottom of the bag off wet ground. In sustained heavy rain the canvas will eventually wet through and then dry out with no damage.
How do I know this is genuinely full grain leather?
Look at the photographs of the surface. Full grain keeps the original grain, including old scars and insect marks, because nothing has been sanded off and sprayed over. If a leather panel is perfectly uniform it has been corrected. Ours are not.
Is the monogram really free?
Yes, on every bag, including this one. Three letters in gold foil, silver foil or a blind press with no colour. It adds about a day before dispatch and we email you a proof of the placement first.
