The Windermere — Tan Leather Hanging Toiletry Bag

The Windermere is a hanging toiletry bag in full grain leather: it folds up like a small satchel and unrolls into three zipped compartments, with a brass hook to hang it from a towel rail or a door.

Tan, our lightest brown and vegetable tanned, so it darkens noticeably toward honey with sun and handling.

Folded, it is about 10 by 8 inches; hung up it keeps everything at eye level on a hotel counter that is too small.

Each of the three compartments has a clear-view zip pocket, so bottles, razor and small things stay separate and easy to find.

The leather

Full grain leather is the top layer of the hide with nothing sanded off, so it keeps its pores and small natural marks, it is the strongest part of the hide, and it softens and darkens into a patina rather than cracking.

How it is made

Made to order in our own workshop. Every piece is cut by hand, the seams are stitched with waxed thread, the edges are sanded and burnished rather than painted, and the hardware is solid brass. Three initials are pressed free, in gold foil, silver foil or a blind press.

Care

Wipe it with a dry cloth, let it dry slowly away from heat if it gets wet, and condition it twice a year with a neutral leather balm.
