The Bude — Chocolate Leather Phone Crossbody Bag

The Bude is a phone crossbody: a slim upright bag sized around a large phone, with three card slots on the back so it doubles as your wallet.

Chocolate is our darkest brown, close to espresso indoors and clearly brown in sunlight. It hides marks well, which makes it the brown to pick if the bag gets thrown on café floors and car seats.

It is 4.75″ (12 cm) wide, 7.5″ (19 cm) tall and 1.25″ (3 cm) deep, and the strap adjusts up to a 23.5″ (60 cm) drop. A phone with up to a 6.9-inch screen fits inside, with keys, and the cards ride outside where you can reach them.

Inside there is one open compartment for the phone, with three card slots on the outside back panel. It comes with a detachable 0.75″ (2 cm) adjustable crossbody strap, up to a 23.5″ (60 cm) drop.

The leather

We use full-grain cowhide from our own regular supply and keep the natural surface. Nothing is sprayed over it to hide marks, so it softens and darkens with use instead of cracking.

How it is made

Load-bearing seams are saddle stitched by hand, two needles through each hole, so a cut thread does not run. Edges are sanded and burnished rather than painted, and the hardware is solid brass, unplated.

Care

Let it dry slowly if it gets caught in rain, stuff it lightly with paper when stored, and condition it twice a year.
