The Whitby — Black Leather Dopp Kit

The Whitby is our full grain leather dopp kit: a soft, boxy wash bag with a long brass zip and a leather carry loop at one end.

Black full grain with a soft matte finish. It changes least over the years, so it still looks sharp after a decade.

At 10 by 5.5 by 5 inches it holds a full razor kit, toothbrush and travel bottles, and it stands open on the side of a basin.

The lining is coated and wipes clean, with elastic loops for a razor and brush so nothing rattles around.

The leather

Full grain leather is the top layer of the hide with nothing sanded off, so it keeps its pores and small natural marks, it is the strongest part of the hide, and it softens and darkens into a patina rather than cracking.

How it is made

Made to order in our own workshop. Every piece is cut by hand, the seams are stitched with waxed thread, the edges are sanded and burnished rather than painted, and the hardware is solid brass. Three initials are pressed free, in gold foil, silver foil or a blind press.

Care

Wipe it with a dry cloth, let it dry slowly away from heat if it gets wet, and condition it twice a year with a neutral leather balm.
