The Coniston — Chocolate Buffalo Leather Shoulder Purse

The Coniston is a soft, slouched shoulder purse in full grain buffalo leather, on a single handle that sits comfortably under the arm.

Chocolate buffalo, a dark brown in which the deep grain and the lighter pull-up creases show clearly.

At 12 inches wide it takes a 10-inch tablet, a wallet, a water bottle and the daily kit.

Inside there are two open pockets and a zip pocket, so keys and cards stay up high.

The leather

This is full grain water buffalo leather with a pull-up finish: a thicker hide than cow, with a bold, deep natural grain, finished in oils and waxes that lighten where the leather flexes and darken back as you handle it. Scratches buff out with a thumb. No two panels have quite the same grain.

How it is made

Made to order in our own workshop. Every piece is cut by hand, the seams are stitched with waxed thread, the edges are sanded and burnished rather than painted, and the hardware is solid brass. Three initials are pressed free, in gold foil, silver foil or a blind press.

Care

Wipe it dry, rub light scuffs with your thumb to warm the oils back in, and condition it once a year. A shower is fine; a downpour wants a slow dry away from heat.
