The Grasmere — Chocolate Buffalo Leather Tote Bag

The Grasmere is a structured tote in full grain buffalo leather, with a flat front slip pocket and riveted handles that drop comfortably over the shoulder.

Chocolate buffalo, a dark brown in which the deep grain and the lighter pull-up creases show clearly.

At 15 inches wide it takes a 14-inch laptop, a scarf and a notebook, and the front pocket keeps a phone to hand.

Inside there is a zip pocket and two open pockets, and the base is cut as its own panel so the bag stands up.

The leather

This is full grain water buffalo leather with a pull-up finish: a thicker hide than cow, with a bold, deep natural grain, finished in oils and waxes that lighten where the leather flexes and darken back as you handle it. Scratches buff out with a thumb. No two panels have quite the same grain.

How it is made

Made to order in our own workshop. Every piece is cut by hand, the seams are stitched with waxed thread, the edges are sanded and burnished rather than painted, and the hardware is solid brass. Three initials are pressed free, in gold foil, silver foil or a blind press.

Care

Wipe it dry, rub light scuffs with your thumb to warm the oils back in, and condition it once a year. A shower is fine; a downpour wants a slow dry away from heat.
