The Alnwick Canvas — Waxed Canvas & Leather Boat Tote, Olive & Tan

The Alnwick Canvas is our classic boat tote in 18oz waxed cotton canvas: an open top, a full-grain leather base that climbs the sides, leather handles running down to the base, and a leather patch on the front for your initials.

Olive canvas with tan leather is the outdoors pairing: muted green that hides dust, with tan leather that ages to a deep honey.

It comes in two sizes. The medium is 15″ (38 cm) wide, 12″ (30 cm) high and 6″ (15 cm) deep, with a 10″ (25 cm) handle drop, and takes up to a 13-inch laptop. The large is 18″ (46 cm) wide, 14″ (36 cm) high and 7″ (18 cm) deep, with a 10.5″ (27 cm) handle drop, and takes up to a 15-inch laptop. Pick the size in the menu above; the price changes with it.

Inside there is a zip pocket on the back wall and an open pocket for a phone, in heavy cotton twill, stitched in rather than glued.

The canvas and the leather

The canvas is an 18oz cotton duck, waxed so light rain and spills bead off. That makes it water-resistant, not waterproof: wipe it dry and it is fine. Every wear point, the base, the handles and the patch, is full-grain leather.

How it is made

Made to order in our own workshop. The handles run down the body to the base and are stitched and riveted in solid brass, so the weight hangs from the leather, not the canvas.

Care

Brush off dry dirt, wipe marks with a damp cloth, and re-wax the canvas once a year if it starts to soak in. Condition the leather base and handles a couple of times a year.
