The Ellis — Waxed Canvas & Leather Tote, Stone & Tan

Stone canvas with tan leather is the Ellis for anyone who finds olive too outdoorsy. Pale, dry and neutral, it works against white, denim and gray without competing with any of them, and the leather base panel takes the abuse that a pale bag would otherwise show.

It comes in two sizes. The small is 13.5″ (34 cm) wide, 10.75″ (27 cm) high and 5″ (13 cm) deep, with a 9.75″ (25 cm) handle drop, and takes up to a 13-inch laptop. The large is 18″ (46 cm) wide, 13″ (33 cm) high and 6.25″ (16 cm) deep, with a 11″ (28 cm) handle drop, and takes up to a 16-inch laptop. Pick the size in the menu above; the price changes with it.

The canvas and the leather

Pale stone waxed cotton with tan full grain at every point that touches the ground or your hand. It is the combination that shows its history most plainly, which is why the base panel is leather rather than canvas.

How it is made

Every cut edge is sanded and burnished in four passes rather than painted, so it cannot flake off in a strip. No edge paint anywhere on the bag, and no glued handle tabs, which are the two places a cheap tote gives way. The lining is heavy cotton twill with a zip pocket and two open pockets sized for a phone and a pass. Nothing is pre made, so allow 3 to 5 working days before it ships.
