The Oakham — Tan Leather Portfolio

The Oakham is a zip-around portfolio in full grain leather: a letter pad on one side, card slots, pen loop and tablet pocket on the other. It is not a bag, it is what goes into the meeting.

Tan, our lightest brown and vegetable tanned, so it darkens noticeably toward honey with sun and handling.

At 13.5 by 10.5 inches it takes a letter-size pad and an 11-inch tablet, and it closes flat to just over an inch thick.

Inside there are card slots, a document pocket, a pen loop and a tablet pocket, all behind a full wraparound zip.

The leather

Full grain leather is the top layer of the hide with nothing sanded off, so it keeps its pores and small natural marks, it is the strongest part of the hide, and it softens and darkens into a patina rather than cracking.

How it is made

Made to order in our own workshop. Every piece is cut by hand, the seams are stitched with waxed thread, the edges are sanded and burnished rather than painted, and the hardware is solid brass. Three initials are pressed free, in gold foil, silver foil or a blind press.

Care

Wipe it with a dry cloth, let it dry slowly away from heat if it gets wet, and condition it twice a year with a neutral leather balm.
