The Morpeth — Tan Leather Messenger Bag

The Morpeth is a full grain leather messenger with a structured flap that closes on a solid brass push-lock, a top grab handle and a wide adjustable shoulder strap.

Tan, our lightest brown and vegetable tanned, so it darkens noticeably toward honey with sun and handling.

At 15.5 inches wide it holds a 15-inch laptop in a padded sleeve, plus a charger, papers and a lunch.

Under the flap there are pen loops, a phone pocket and a zip pocket, so the small things never end up under the laptop.

The leather

Full grain leather is the top layer of the hide with nothing sanded off, so it keeps its pores and small natural marks, it is the strongest part of the hide, and it softens and darkens into a patina rather than cracking.

How it is made

Made to order in our own workshop. Every piece is cut by hand, the seams are stitched with waxed thread, the edges are sanded and burnished rather than painted, and the hardware is solid brass. Three initials are pressed free, in gold foil, silver foil or a blind press.

Care

Wipe it with a dry cloth, let it dry slowly away from heat if it gets wet, and condition it twice a year with a neutral leather balm.
