The Ely — Black Woven Leather Belt Bag

This is the Ely belt bag with a hand woven front panel: the same crescent shape, zip top and hidden back pocket, with full-grain strips woven across the face.

Black is the colour that goes to every room without asking. This one is a matte, aniline-dyed hide, so it reads as deep ink rather than plastic shine, and a scuff buffs back with a thumb instead of showing a pale line.

It is 9″ (23 cm) wide, 5″ (13 cm) tall and 2.25″ (6 cm) deep. The strap fits waists from 26″ to 48″ (66 to 122 cm) and lets out to wear as a sling. Phone, cards, keys and a passport.

Inside there is one slip pocket inside and a hidden zip pocket on the back panel. It comes with an adjustable 1″ (2.5 cm) smooth leather strap with brass buckle, fits waists 26″ to 48″ (66 to 122 cm), or wears as a sling or crossbody.

The weave

The front is woven by hand from strips of full-grain leather cut from the same hide as the rest of the bag. The weave sits on a solid leather back panel, so it holds its shape and the contents never show through.

How it is made

Weaving adds most of a day to each bag. The strips are woven on a board, stitched to the backing panel around every edge, then the bag is assembled and saddle stitched by hand in our own workshop. That is why woven styles leave us in 4 to 6 working days.

Care

Brush dust out of the weave with a soft dry brush, keep it out of long direct sun, and condition the smooth parts twice a year. Do not soak the woven panel.
