The Barnard — Chocolate Leather Weekender Bag

The Barnard is a full grain leather weekender: a classic duffle with rolled handles, a stitched leather base and a detachable shoulder strap.

Chocolate, a deep dark brown that hides marks well and darkens only slowly.

At 21 inches wide it packs two to three nights, and it fits the overhead locker on most flights.

Inside there is a long zip pocket and two open pockets, with room left for a wash bag and shoes.

The leather

Full grain leather is the top layer of the hide with nothing sanded off, so it keeps its pores and small natural marks, it is the strongest part of the hide, and it softens and darkens into a patina rather than cracking.

How it is made

Made to order in our own workshop. Every piece is cut by hand, the seams are stitched with waxed thread, the edges are sanded and burnished rather than painted, and the hardware is solid brass. Three initials are pressed free, in gold foil, silver foil or a blind press.

Care

Wipe it with a dry cloth, let it dry slowly away from heat if it gets wet, and condition it twice a year with a neutral leather balm.
