The Rye — Chocolate Woven Mini Crossbody Bag

The Rye is a woven mini crossbody: a small box with a hand woven flap that closes on a hidden magnet, on a slim detachable strap.

Chocolate is our darkest brown, close to espresso indoors and clearly brown in sunlight. It hides marks well, which makes it the brown to pick if the bag gets thrown on café floors and car seats.

It is 7.5″ (19 cm) wide, 5″ (13 cm) tall and 2.25″ (6 cm) deep, with a strap that adjusts up to a 23.5″ (60 cm) drop. A phone, cards, keys and a lipstick.

Inside there is one slip pocket for cards. It comes with a detachable 0.75″ (2 cm) adjustable crossbody strap, up to a 23.5″ (60 cm) drop.

The weave

The front is woven by hand from strips of full-grain leather cut from the same hide as the rest of the bag. The weave sits on a solid leather back panel, so it holds its shape and the contents never show through.

How it is made

Weaving adds most of a day to each bag. The strips are woven on a board, stitched to the backing panel around every edge, then the bag is assembled and saddle stitched by hand in our own workshop. That is why woven styles leave us in 4 to 6 working days.

Care

Brush dust out of the weave with a soft dry brush, keep it out of long direct sun, and condition the smooth parts twice a year. Do not soak the woven panel.
