The Skipton — Oat Woven Leather Sling Bag

This is the Skipton sling with a hand woven front: the same slim sling, quick front pocket and hidden back zip pocket, with woven full-grain leather on the face.

A pale, sandy cream that keeps the grain visible. We give it a slightly firmer finish than our browns so it resists denim transfer better.

It is 11.5″ (29 cm) wide, 6.25″ (16 cm) tall and 2.25″ (6 cm) deep, with a buckle strap that adjusts from an 11.75″ to a 20.75″ (30 to 53 cm) drop. Phone, passport, wallet, keys and an e-reader.

Inside there is a front quick-access zip pocket, a hidden zip pocket on the back and two slip pockets inside. It comes with an adjustable 1.25″ (3 cm) smooth leather sling strap with brass buckle, 11.75″ to 20.75″ (30 to 53 cm) drop.

The weave

Each strip is cut from full-grain leather, skived thin at the edges and woven by hand in a basket weave. A full leather panel sits behind the weave and carries the weight, so the strips are never what holds the bag together.

How it is made

A weaver lays and tightens every strip by hand, then the panel is stitched to its leather backing and built into the bag in our own workshop. Edges are burnished and the fittings are solid brass.

Care

Wipe with a dry cloth, brush the weave now and then, and use a little neutral conditioner on the strips and strap when they start to look dry.
