The Richmond — Olive Leather Laptop Briefcase

The Richmond is a slim zip-top briefcase in full grain leather: two rolled handles, a detachable shoulder strap and a clean front with nothing to catch.

Olive, a muted dark green-brown that reads as brown indoors and green in daylight.

At 16 by 11.5 by 3 inches it takes a 15.6-inch laptop in a padded sleeve, plus documents, a charger and a notebook, and stays slim enough to carry all day.

Inside there are pen loops, a phone pocket and a zip pocket, and a second open section for papers.

The leather

Full grain leather is the top layer of the hide with nothing sanded off, so it keeps its pores and small natural marks, it is the strongest part of the hide, and it softens and darkens into a patina rather than cracking.

How it is made

Made to order in our own workshop. Every piece is cut by hand, the seams are stitched with waxed thread, the edges are sanded and burnished rather than painted, and the hardware is solid brass. Three initials are pressed free, in gold foil, silver foil or a blind press.

Care

Wipe it with a dry cloth, let it dry slowly away from heat if it gets wet, and condition it twice a year with a neutral leather balm.
