The Skipton — Cognac Woven Leather Sling Bag

Cognac is a warm amber brown with the grain left visible. It is finished with a light wax, not a topcoat, so expect it to deepen about half a shade in the first year, most of all where your hand goes.

This is the Skipton sling with a hand woven front: the same slim sling, quick front pocket and hidden back zip pocket, with woven full-grain leather on the face.

It is 11.5″ (29 cm) wide, 6.25″ (16 cm) tall and 2.25″ (6 cm) deep, with a buckle strap that adjusts from an 11.75″ to a 20.75″ (30 to 53 cm) drop. Phone, passport, wallet, keys and an e-reader.

Inside there is a front quick-access zip pocket, a hidden zip pocket on the back and two slip pockets inside. It comes with an adjustable 1.25″ (3 cm) smooth leather sling strap with brass buckle, 11.75″ to 20.75″ (30 to 53 cm) drop.

The weave

The front is woven by hand from strips of full-grain leather cut from the same hide as the rest of the bag. The weave sits on a solid leather back panel, so it holds its shape and the contents never show through.

How it is made

Weaving adds most of a day to each bag. The strips are woven on a board, stitched to the backing panel around every edge, then the bag is assembled and saddle stitched by hand in our own workshop. That is why woven styles leave us in 4 to 6 working days.

Care

Brush dust out of the weave with a soft dry brush, keep it out of long direct sun, and condition the smooth parts twice a year. Do not soak the woven panel.
