The MorpethThe Rydal is the everyday one. It is a structured flap bag with twin buckles over hidden magnetic catches, a top handle and a removable strap that adjusts for shoulder or crossbody wear. It weighs 1.9 lb empty and takes a tablet or a slim 13-inch laptop in its back section, with pockets in front for a phone and pen. The Ambleside is the slim laptop one. It is 15 inches wide and only 3 deep, weighs 2.2 lb, and carries a 14-inch laptop in a padded sleeve under a flap with a solid brass turn-lock, on a 1.25-inch strap. Each colour has its own lining: rose with oxblood, sand with cognac, grey with black and oatmeal with olive. The Morpeth is the one for a full-size laptop. It is a unisex 15.5-inch messenger with a padded 15-inch sleeve, a brass push-lock flap and a top grab handle, and many women choose it as their work bag.

Measure your laptop, not its screen. A 13-inch laptop is about 12 inches wide and fits the Rydal. A 14-inch laptop fits the slim Ambleside, and a 15-inch one needs the Morpeth. Then weigh what you carry: if it is a tablet, a notebook and a wallet, the Rydal is more than a pound lighter and sits neatly on a smaller frame. If the laptop comes with you every day, the Morpeth's padded sleeve and wider strap are worth the extra weight.
A messenger is the most hands-free way to carry a laptop and the most secure in a crowd, because the flap and the bag stay in front of you. Wear the strap across the body with the bag resting at your hip, or slightly forward if you are in a crowd. On a petite frame, shorten the strap until the bottom of the bag sits at hip bone level, so it does not bounce when you walk. The Rydal also works on one shoulder or by its top handle when you get to the office.
Both bags are full grain leather, the top layer of the hide with its natural surface left on, so they soften and darken into a patina instead of peeling. The edges are burnished rather than painted, the hardware is solid brass, and on the Rydal the strap anchors are stitched and riveted, not glued. Each bag is cut and stitched by hand in our own workshop after you order and leaves within 5 to 7 working days. Up to three initials can be pressed on the flap free, in gold, silver or a blind press. Any bag can come back within 30 days.
