The Ludlow — Salt & Pepper Hair-On Cowhide Crossbody Bag

The Ludlow Hair-On is our structured Ludlow crossbody with a hair-on cowhide flap and body, closing on a solid brass push-lock.

Salt and pepper hair-on cowhide: black and white hairs speckled together so the panel reads as a mottled gray, trimmed in black full grain leather. Every hide is patterned differently, so yours will be one of a kind.

It is 9.5 inches wide and 7 inches tall, with up to a 23.5-inch strap drop, for a phone, wallet and keys.

Under the flap there is a slip pocket and a zip pocket.

The hide

The panels are hair-on cowhide: the hair is left on the hide, so the color and pattern are natural and every bag is different. Yours will not match the photos exactly, and that is the point. Expect a few loose hairs in the first weeks; that settles quickly. The trim, handles and straps are smooth full grain leather.

How it is made

Made to order in our own workshop. Every piece is cut by hand, the seams are stitched with waxed thread, the edges are sanded and burnished rather than painted, and the hardware is solid brass. Three initials are pressed free on the leather trim, in gold foil, silver foil or a blind press.

Care

Brush the hair gently in the direction it lies, keep it dry, and never use conditioner, oil or a damp cloth on the hair. Condition only the smooth leather trim, twice a year.
