Leather travel bags are everything you carry when you go away: a duffle for the clothes, a backpack for the laptop and a toiletry bag for the wash kit. We make all three in full grain leather, full grain buffalo leather and waxed canvas with leather trim. A carry-on set is usually one duffle in the overhead locker and the Kirkby backpack under the seat, with a dopp kit packed inside the duffle.
Our leather duffle bags run from one night to a week, and all have a detachable shoulder strap. The Barnard is full grain leather throughout. The Keswick is waxed canvas, 1.3 lb lighter, with a zipped end pocket for shoes. The Malton is thick buffalo leather on brass feet. The Kirkby is a flap backpack in waxed canvas with a leather base, two buckled straps and a padded sleeve for a 15-inch laptop. On a trip it is the bag that goes under the seat in front of you, with the laptop, a sweater, a water bottle and a book. See leather backpacks.
A dopp kit keeps liquids away from your clothes. Ours are boxy, so they stand open on a hotel basin, and the coated linings wipe clean. Choose the Whitby in full grain leather, the Masham in buffalo leather or the Sedbergh in waxed canvas. Leather and waxed canvas go through airport X-ray like any bag. Carry liquids of 3.4 oz or less in a quart-size clear bag. That bag fits inside any of our dopp kits, so you can lift it straight out at security. Our duffles fit most overhead lockers. US carry-on limits are commonly about 22 x 14 x 9 inches, and because the bags are soft-sided they compress to fit, but do not overfill them on airlines that measure.
A good travel bag needs handles wrapped and stitched through the body, a reinforced base, solid brass hardware that will not snap or flake, and full grain leather, which takes airport knocks and looks better for them. Every bag is cut and stitched by hand in our own workshop after you order and leaves within 5 to 7 working days. We press up to three initials free on each piece, which is a good way to tell a travel set apart on a luggage belt. Returns are accepted within 30 days.
